Beckton is a quiet refuge in East London. You won’t find many families with young children, and many won’t have any children still living at home. There is a large retirement community here, which means that most community events tend to happen in the afternoon. A lot of these activities happen outside, so there are some nice parks to take advantage of, especially toward the middle of Beckton. The eastern part of the neighborhood is primarily industrial, so there's not much access to the Thames even though it forms the eastern border. For horse lovers, Beckton is home to the Docklands Equestrian Centre, which hosted the equestrian events in the London Olympics.
The rental market is healthy and slightly more affordable than nearby neighborhoods. People who live here tend to stick around.
Beckton is bordered on the north by Barking, on the east by the Thames River, on the south by North Woolwich, and on the west by Canning Town.
