Canning Town is one of the more affordable neighborhoods of London. But there is a reason for that: it suffers from quite a bit of crime, high poverty levels, and unemployment.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel because young professionals who can’t afford to live elsewhere are moving into the area since it's a quick commute to the City or Canary Wharf. There are a few more take-out places and shops here than there were just a few years ago, and more are on the way. Additionally, a £3.7 billion program by the borough is looking to completely transform the neighborhood so Canning Town could be a great place to live in a few years.

There are some single family homes in the area, but most of what you will find will be apartments in converted homes. There apartments aren’t always in the best shape so a word to the wise would be to tour the property before signing a lease.

Canning Town is bordered on the north by Plaistow, on the east by Beckton, on the south by Custom House, and on the west by Leamouth.
