Dartmouth Park has an average violent crime rate and an above average property crime rate for London.
If you are craving a slower lifestyle or you are ready to really settle, Dartmouth Park might be just what you are craving. With the largest open space in all of London, it is a great place for those who have dogs, children, or just want some breathing room. Waterlow Park has tree-lined walkways and is absolutely gorgeous no matter the season. Throughout the year, this park is home to many live performances, interesting exhibitions, and workshops to help broaden your horizons. There is also a beloved cafe that only locals really know about.
Highgate Cemetery is another highlight of this area, however morbid that may sound. This is a really popular tourist destination since its "residents" include historical people like Karl Marx. Some of the tombstones are really beautiful and you'll often see historians walking about.
If you are looking for a place to live with a lot of culture and character, right next to that cemetery is The Whittington Estate, a social housing and green structure. It was designed in the 1970s, making it new compared to many other choices, and is highly sought after by architecture fans. Grove Terrace is another place to live for those who like townhome living, and there is even a gated community. And there are twelve Gothic Revival homes that look like they are straight out of a Grimm’s fairytale.
Even though there are a lot of tourists who walk around, the area has a real community feel. There are two streets with shops that have just about all of the amenities you need: a few restaurants, a deli, a vet, a liquor store, and a Tesco supermarket. There have been rumors for years about more economic development.
At the end of the day, this is a family community that has continually rising prices. For that, however, you get safety, beautiful views, the amenities you need, and a good school system.
Dartmouth Park is bordered on the north by Highgate, on the east by Tufnell Park, on the south by Kentish Town, and on the west by Gospel Oak.
