Homerton has a high violent crime rate and a high property crime rate for London.
Homerton is one of the many parts of London in the midst of a transformation and it's emerging from a dark period of crime and gang activity. While a lot of the old attitudes toward Homerton still persist, the crime has dropped significantly, the housing market prices are on the way up, and people moving in are cleaning up the area.
Thanks to the 2012 Olympics there are newly built apartments, hip little cafes, and new shops. Some local favorites are the Adam & Eve pub and the Jackdaw & Star, which offers craft beers and snacks. The confirmation that this place has really turned around is the arrival of a weekly street market. And for families with kids, the Homerton Grove Adventure Playgroud has got to be one of the coolest playgrounds in the city.
The area has quite a few options for housing, especially those looking to rent. You'll find detached and semi-detached houses, lowrise apartment blocks, and highrise towers.
Homerton is bordered on the north by Clapton, on the east by Hackney Wick, on the south by South Hackney, and on the west by Hackney.
