Safety

Lewisham has a high violent crime rate and a high property crime rate for London.

  WHAT’S LIVING IN Lewisham LIKE?

Lewisham has a reputation as a dangerous place to live and is definitely grimier than surrounding neighborhoods. Nonetheless, investment and new development is gradually (and we mean gradually) gentrificating the area and people are moving in who are willing to sacrifice some safety and amenities for the bigger properties they can afford here.

There are gorgeous apartments and homes throughout Lewisham and you'll have a wide selection to choose from, ranging from relatively pricey to very affordable. New developments have been popping up all over town and provide plenty of family-sized housing. Flats here tend to be inside converted homes, though there are some apartment complexes.

You'll find quite a few different restaurants in Lewisham, as well as bakeries and cafes that have found repeat customers in the local population. The pub scene isn’t as vibrant as other neighborhoods but there are favorites like the Fox & Firkin.

The area is well connected to the rest of the city and this is one reason it's been growing.

Lewisham is bordered on the north by Greenwich, on the east by Blackheath, on the south by Hither Green and Ladywell, and on the west by Brockley.
