Mile End has a high violent crime rate and an above average property crime rate for London.
Mile End is a residential neighborhood that is ideally located for people working in Central London. Situated in East London, Mile End is enjoying the same rejuvenation sweeping through the entire area, which means that more and more amenities are popping up. It also mean that the cost of living will keep going up.
Most of the housing here comes in the form of flats, though there are some single-family homes. Young professionals who are looking toward the future, particularly couples, are moving here. There are many “born and bred” Londoners who have been here for decades, so it isn’t strange to see houses pass from generation to generation. And around 20% of the population are students thanks to the presence of the Queen Mary University of London, so there are some lively parts around the neighborhood's edges.
Mile End Park is a great place for those who like to stay fit. There’s a great climbing wall, weekly fitness classes, go-karting tracks, a swimming pool, and many different sports courts that cater to all ages. For those that aren’t as active, there are quite a few gallery spaces and exhibitions that bring in different people throughout the year.
There are plenty of choices for bars and restaurants when you get out of the highly residential areas, and new restaurants are popping up everywhere, including family-friendly chains.
Mile End is very connected to the rest of the city, there are three Tube lines, quite a few buses that come through, and it is cycling friendly.
Mile End is bordered on the north by South Hackney, on the east by Bow, on the south by Stepney, and on the west by Bethnal Green.
