Located in North London, Muswell Hill is a vibrant neighborhood with much to love: tons of restaurants, great shops, and excellent schools. The neighborhood is full of creative media types and families and has serious rock'n'roll credentials since the band The Kinks started here.
Housing here isn't cheap since this is a desirable place to live. You'll find a few detached houses (all more than a million pounds), semi-detached houses, plenty of elegant terraces, and a lot of flats in converted homes. Most of the properties are in the Victorian or Edwardian styles and most have private gardens.
Dozens of dining, nightlife, and entertainment options line Broadway, Muswell Hill's main thoroughfare. Toff's is a local favorite acclaimed by customers as the "best fish and chips" in London. Cafe Loco has great cocktails but, true to its name, gets a little rowdy late at night. And just on the border of the neighborhood is the historic Phoenix Cinema, which was built in 1910 and shows blockbuster films as well as opera and theater on the silver screen.
When you feel like getting outside you've got the 197 acres (80 hectares) of beautiful Alexandra Park, which is the site of the stunning Alexandra Palace. Originally built in 1873 as a site for recreation and events, it became the BBC's TV headquarters. Today it still hosts music acts, conferences, and exhibitions.
Muswell Hill is a self-contained neighborhood. It's got grocery stores, bookstores, toy stores, and a weekly farmers' market offering fresh produce, baked goods, and meats.
Muswell Hill is bordered on the north by Friern Barnet, on the east by Wood Green, on the south by Highgate, and on the west by East Finchley.
