Sydenham used to consist of just a few cottages but it has grown into a great surburban neighborhood. Filled with people from all walks of life, there is always something to do here and it's got some terrific parks. You'll have your pick of the different housing styles available, including Victorian terraces, detached houses, cottages, and converted flats.
There are some great options for food ranging from trendy new restaurants to pubs offering solid British fare. The nightlife here is quite tame but there are a couple dozen pubs when you feel like a pint.

Sydenham is bordered on the north by Forest Hill, on the east by Beckenham, on the south by Penge, and on the west by Crystal Palace and Gipsy Hill.
