Calabasas has a low violent crime rate and a low property crime rate for Los Angeles.
Situated between mountains and within site of nearby parklands, Calabasas' quiet and privacy has attracted a multitude of big-name actors and singers. It's not all mansions and millionaires here, however. You'll find condos and modest homes for less than $400,000. Rentals are relatively affordable as well. But if you are the type looking to spend millions on a sprawling compound with a panic room, well, Calabasas has that, too.
Despite the celeb cachet, this is not the kind of place you should come if you're looking for a foodie's paradise or a good nightlife. The limited dining options are mostly clustered in a few shopping plazas just off the 101 highway. Depending on how you classify a "bar", you'll find maybe two here.
The secluded location comes at a price however, no matter how affordable your home: if you work in any of the main business centers in LA you can expect a lot of time sitting in traffic unless you leave very, very early in the morning.
Calabasas is bordered on the north by Woodland Hills, on the east by Topanga, on the south by the Santa Monica Mountains, and on the west by Agoura Hills.
