Lake Balboa has an average violent crime rate and an above average property crime rate for Los Angeles.
Lake Balboa is a diverse suburban neighborhood in the middle of the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles. This is a predominantly residential area, though you'll find lots of casual places to eat on its main roads. For anything fancier or to find much of a nightlife or do more than basic shopping, you'll need to head to other areas.
If you like the outdoors there is a huge park next door: the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area, which has the namesake Lake Balboa, biking paths, two golf courses, two sports centers, an archery park, wildlife reserve, and Japanese gardens. For those less inclined to be active there is plenty of room to just have a picnic or use the barbecue grills.
Lake Balboa is located by two major highways, the 405 and the 101, so it makes commuting to other parts of LA simple…if not necessarily quick.
Lake Balboa is bordered on the north by Northridge, on the east by Van Nuys, on the south by Encino, and on the west by Reseda.
