Lakewood is a tidy, well-managed city with a diverse population of 80,000 located in Southeast LA. This is a safe community, though it does have some issues along its borders with rougher neighborhoods. There are dozens of casual dining options here, ranging from sushi to diners to Mediterranean. Shopping is dominated by the Lakewood Center, a giant mall with hundreds of stores.

There are a number of parks here offering picnic areas, playgrounds, and athletic fields. One park hosts a summer concert series. The Lakewood Golf Country Club has an award-winning golf course and the Lakewood Tennis Center is a no-frills facility with several tennis courts and night lights.

Schools here fall into one of four different school districts. Lakewood does have several good and excellent schools, so if you have school-aged children you'll want to be cognizant of which district you'll be a part of as you look for a home.

Lakewood is bordered on the north by Bellflower, on the east by Cerritos and Cypress, and on the south and west by Long Beach.
