Van Nuys has an above average violent crime rate and an above average property crime rate for Los Angeles.
Van Nuys is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles. Of all the neighborhoods in the Valley, it holds the dubious honor of having the lowest median household income. The flip side of that is it's a very affordable place to live.
While some of the residential areas are perfectly safe, there are other parts of Van Nuys where you should exercise caution, particularly at night. Overall, it's not a particularly desirable area.
Van Nuys is bordered on the north by North Hills and Panorama City, on the east by Valley Glen, on the south by Sherman Oaks, and on the west by Lake Balboa.
