Cairnlea has a low violent crime rate and a below average property crime rate for Melbourne.
Cairnlea is a moderately affordable suburb 17 kilometers west from Melbourne's CBD. This leafy suburb has the very best of the city right at its fingertips: trams, trains, and even bike paths provide convenient access to the CBD.
Residents remark that the suburb has an intimate village feel. During the day, Cairnlea children attend excellent schools. And in the afternoons, they enjoy nature reserves and beautiful parks.
If you're getting the picture that this is a pretty mellow neighborhood, that's because it is. There is a shopping plaza in the center of town that provides a medical clinic, grocery store, and a few restaurants, but otherwise there's not much happening here.
When it comes to housing, you'll find streets lined with large, restored Californian bungalows on generous lots. This is mostly a market for people looking to buy a home; rentals are scarce so you'll need to keep a close eye on the market. Buyers will be happy as most homes are relatively affordable, so middle class families and individuals can enjoy a comfortable life in Cairnlea.
Cairnlea is bordered on the north and east by St Albans, on the south by Ardeer, and on the west by Deer Park.
