Clifton Hill has an average violent crime rate and a high property crime rate for Melbourne.
Just 4 kilometers northeast of Melbourne's CBD, Clifton Hill is known for its Victorian and Edwardian style homes. Residents enjoy an impressive local shopping strip along Queens Parade, just on the border of hip Fitzroy North. On weekends, singles and young couples flow in and out of the Victorian-era shopfronts that have been preserved since the 19th century. For more shopping and entrainment options, locals walk to the train station or tram stops and head to Melbourne.
The neighborhood has some great parks and athetlic facitilies: the Darling Gardens feature a football oval, cricket field, skatepark, playground, and a great trail that runs along Merri Creek.
Clifton is mainly inhabited by singles and couples without children. Most residents live in a diverse mix of single family homes, semi-detached townhomes and apartments. Unfortunately, a prime location and historic neighborhood has made rent in Clifton Hill pretty steep, and buying even more expensive. But if you have the cash, Clifton Hill is a great place to live.
Clifton Hill is bordered on the north by Northcote, on the east by Yarra Bend Park, on the south by Abbotsford and Collingwood, and on the west by Fitzroy North.
