Collingwood has a high violent crime rate and a high property crime rate for Melbourne.
Collingwood is one of the oldest suburbs in Melbourne, but today it's a cool, gritty place to live just 3 kilometers from the Melbourne CBD. It still retains its historical distinction and many of its buildings date to the nineteenth century.
There are dozens of restaurants here, ranging from casual cafes to high-end dining and covering a range of cuisines. The nightlife is similarly bustling, with plenty of bars, pubs, clubs, and live music venues. As Melbourne's local haven for hipsters, there are a number of vintage clothing stores and bike shops.
Because of the happening scene here, Collingwood is mainly a a place for singles or couples without children. It's also home to Melbourne's second largest LGBTQ community, with several gay clubs and bars throughout.
Most residents live in a diverse mix of converted warehouse and factory apartments, older cottages, and modern townhouses.
Collingwood is bordered on the north by Clifton Hill, on the east by Abbotsford, on the south by East Melbourne, and on the west by Fitzroy.
