Botanical gardens, Victorian architecture, and a strong LGBTQ community: just 5 kilometers south of the Melbourne CBD, Prahran is a funky, unique neighborhood that its residents are proud to call it home. Its main road, Chapel Street, is packed with restaurants, bars, cafes, and boutiques.

Prahran is also famous for a large collection of Victorian era commercial buildings. Nowhere is this more evident than on the aforementioned Chapel Street, where turn of the century emporiums house businesses and converted apartments.

This bustling scene attracts a wide demographic, from students to young professionals to families. But at the heart of Prahran is a vibrant gay community which operates a variety of bookstores, clubs, and restaurants along Commercial Road.

Most housing comes in the form of unassuming looking Victorian- and Edwardian-style homes which have been completely renovated inside. There are also a good number of apartment buildings.

Prahran has many small gardens scattered throughout. Some of the most famous green spaces include the Orrong Romanis Park, Grattan Gardens, and The Princes Gardens, which features Chapel Off Chapel, an old church converted into a theatre. Nearby is the Prahran Skate Park which has the best skateboarding facilities in Victoria.

Prahran is bordered on the north by South Yarra and Toorak, on the east by Armadale, on the south by St Kilda East and Windsor, and on the west by South Melbourne.
