The Garment District has an above average violent crime rate and a high property crime rate for New York City.
The Garment District is a mostly commercial neighborhood in midtown Manhattan. It was once the epicenter of the fashion industry for the United States and many fashion and fashion supply companies are still based here. The core of the neighborhood tends to quiet down after working hours as commuters head home. There are some apartment and condo towers in the neighborhood — for the most part located near its western boundaries and closer to the amenities of Hell's Kitchen.
It is directly next to Times Square, which draws hordes of tourists, so this is not a low key area. Bryant Park and the beautiful New York Public Library are just a few minutes' walk away when you want some quiet time.
The Garment District is bordered on the north by Midtown, on the east by Murray Hill, on the south by Koreatown and Chelsea, and on the west by Hell's Kitchen.
