Maspeth has a low violent crime rate and a low property crime rate for New York City.
Maspeth is a large, solidly blue collar neighborhood in Queens that is split between a residential area and an industrial area where many of its residents work. This is a tightknit community of multi-generational families where people know each other and stop to say hello on the street. Despite being only a few miles from Manhattan it has a small town feel.
Grand Avenue is the main commercial thoroughfare here and is lined with mom-and-pop shops, restaurants, and several Irish pubs.
Housing here is relatively affordable compared to other parts of the city. You'll find a good selection of apartments for rent and single-family houses or townhomes to buy.
There are no trains in Maspeth but several buses come through town so public transit is efficient for those without cars. It also has quick access to a couple major highways.
Maspeth is bordered on the west and north by Woodside, on the east by Elmhurst and Middle Village, and on the south by Ridgewood.
