Montlake has a low violent crime rate and a below average property crime rate for Seattle.
Montlake is a quiet, affluent neighborhood full of parks and well-maintained single-family homes. Athough it does have some dining and shopping options along one of its main streets, the real draw here is the tightknit community feel, the charming homes, and its parks. Sailing aficionados will love being close to the nearby Seattle Yacht Club.
The only drawback to Montlake is its location across the water from the University of Washington. Since there is a bridge connecting these two parts of Seattle, traffic often backs up into Montlake when the University's football team plays a home game.
Montlake is bordered to the north by Portage Bay (the body of water, not the neighborhood), to the east by Washington Park and Broadmoor, to the south by Capitol Hill, and to the west by Portage Bay (both the neighborhood and body of water).
