Tucked away in the southeast of Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, Malabar is a primarily residential community with a small town feel. You'll find quiet, wide streets with one- and two-story brick homes here, along with a few low-rise apartment buildings. There are some restaurants and shops clustered near the beach.

The beach itself sits at the back of a small bay so is well protected from big waves; swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and boating are popular here. The Randwick Golf Course sits right along the cliffs of the ocean. You don't have to be a member to play here and would be hard-pressed to ask for a better view while playing a round.

Nearly half of the northern part of this neighborhood is taken up by the Malabar Headland National Park, which offers hiking, plenty of space for picnics, and features a historic WWII fortification. A correctional facility takes up most of the southwest portion of this neighborhood.

Malabar is bordered on the north by Maroubra, on the east by the Tasman Sea, on the south by Little Bay, and on the west by Chifley and Matraville.
