Pacoima has an above average violent crime rate and a below average property crime rate for Los Angeles.
One of the oldest neighborhoods in the San Fernando Valley, Pacoima is a diverse, working class area of modest single story homes and apartment complexes. Running through the center of town is an industrial section full of warehouses and a small airport. Though some people consider it a rough neighborhood, it engenders a lot of pride in its residents who talk of tight bonds with their neighbors.
You'll find some highly rated casual restaurants – lots of Mexican, Pizza, and burger joints – in Pacoima. Shopping is mostly limited to big box and discount retailers, a number of pawn shops, beauty supply stores, and home and garden supplies.
Pacoima is bordered on the north by San Fernando, on the east by Lake View Terrace and Hansen Dam, on the south by Sun Valley, and on the west by Arleta and Mission Hill.
