Carson has an above average violent crime rate and an above average property crime rate for Los Angeles.
Located roughtly 16 miles south of Downtown LA, the suburb of Carson is a mix of residential areas, industrial zones, and major retailers like Wal-Mart and IKEA. Some parts of Carson are a bit rough and caution should be used at night, but away from the commercial parts of town you'll find quiet residential neighborhoods. Single-story, modest homes line sun-drenched streets and there are some large condo and apartment complexes sprinkled throughout the area as well.
While Carson does have highly rated restaurants offering a diverse range of cuisines, you're not going to find any fine dining around. Nightlife is limited and consists of a few sports bars, though there are a number of music venues here.
Carson is also home to the LA Galaxy, a major league soccer team. They play at the StubHub Center, which includes a tennis stadium, track and field, and velodrome and, in addition to sports, also hosts music festivals and other events.
Besides one highly ranked high school, overall the options are average.
Carson is bordered on the north by Compton, on the east by Rancho Dominguez and Long Beach, on the south by Wilmington, and on the west by Torrance.
