Named for the large refinery that takes up nearly half of its real estate (its Spanish for "The Second"; this was the site of Standard Oil's second refinery on the west coast), El Segundo is home to a number of aerospace and aviation firms thanks to the Los Angeles International Airport's location just to the north. It also hosts a number of management consulting, media, and technology companies in its many large office buildings.
Away from the skyscrapers and office buildings is a charming main street (literally, it's called Main Street) full of shops and restaurants. If you live around here you'll be able to walk to great dining, gyms, dry cleaners, and other shops and services.
Housing consists of attractive single-family homes on tree-lined streets. Quick access to two main highways makes getting elsewhere in the city simple.
El Segundo is bordered on the north by Westchester, on the east by Del Aire and Hawthorne, on the south by Manhattan Beach, and on the west by the Pacific Ocean.
