WHAT’S LIVING IN Mountain View LIKE?

Mountain View might be the heart of Silicon Valley given its central location and pedigree: it's home to many of the world’s biggest and best known tech companies. Does "Google" sound familiar? Their headquarters is here and they employ upwards of 16,000 of Mountain View’s 75,000 residents. This town has come a long way since it was a blue collar area whose fortunes were tied to the military facilities nearby. LinkedIn, Quora, and Intuit are some of the other big companies here. There’s even a NASA research center!

The vibe here is similar to surrounding cities such as Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and Milpitas. It’s a diverse, safe, and technology-centered city.

Mountain View’s downtown area is bursting with activity for a city of its size and population. It's very walkable and exploring by foot is highly recommended, although you’ll want a car for trips to the rest of town. There are some great restaurants and bars, and the iconic Shoreline Amphitheatre frequently showcases the top talents in music. There are plenty of trails and parks popular with outdoorsy and active residents, and plenty to explore.

Mountain View is made up of several different neighborhoods , which vary in the age and quality of housing. However, like other Valley cities, it’s mostly suburban sprawl that feels quite homogenous. If someone from the adjacent city of Sunnyvale wandered in by accident, they probably wouldn't notice since it all looks the same.

As with many of the cities in the Valley, Mountain View boasts a number of excellent public schools. You'll also find highly rated private schools and even a German international school.

If you do need to commute elsehwere, there are two train stations here.

Mountain View is bordered on the north by the Bay, on the east by Sunnyvale, on the south by Los Altos, and on the west by Palo Alto.
