Situated 6 kilometers northeast of Melbourne's CBD is the oddly shaped and beautiful suburb of Fairfield. The majority of residents are urban professionals who are as diverse as the range of architecture found here: it has a significant Greek and Italian population, along with a growing Chinese, Dutch, German, and Indian presence.

Residents say you can walk to just about everything here. The shopping district along Station Street has stores, cafes, restaurants, and bars. Brenta's Meats and Cardamone's Supermarket are beloved by locals and said to have the best fruits and veggies in the area.

Just next to the railway station is the Fairfield Industrial Dog Object (aka FiDO), a 6 meter tall animatronic wooden dog. Down the road is Fairfield Park, where amateur soccer teams like Fitzroy City and Yarra Jets play.

The major feature of this suburb is the sprawling 260 hectare (640 acre) Yarra Bend Park, which has plenty of hiking, picnic areas, a boathouse, and golf course.

Residents live in a mix of cottages and apartments. If you are searching for an affordable and diverse suburb close to Melbourne, Fairfield could be a good fit.

Fairfield is bordered on the north by Thornbury, on the east by Alphington, on the south by the Yarra River, and on the west by Northcote.
