Portage Bay has a low violent crime rate and a below average property crime rate for Seattle.
Portage Bay is a small residential neighborhood that slopes down to the Portage Bay body of water. Its tree-lined streets are home to stately Tudor- and Craftsman-style houses. It's known for a high concentration of houseboats.
There's not a whole lot happening here: you'll find a few casual restaurants and a couple shops, but for more excitement you'll need to walk across the bridge to the University District.
Water aficionados will find a rowing center and yacht club.
Portage Bay is bordered on the north and east by Portage Bay (body of water), on the south by Capitol Hill, and on the west by Eastlake.
