Brentwood has a low violent crime rate and a slightly above average property crime rate for Los Angeles.
Brentwood is an affluent Westside neighborhood with a healthy mix of pricey mansions, "normal" looking homes, and more affordable apartment living. Like its neighbors to the west and east, the Pacific Palisades and Bel-Air, respectively, this is a quiet, mostly residential area. If diversity is what you are after then this neighborhood is not for you. It is 85% White with Asians in a distant second at 7%.
However, it does have offices, shops, and restaurants along its main corridor, San Vicente Boulevard. The Brentwood Country Mart is a charming little collection of independent bookstores, designer boutiques, and great food. During summers it plays family-friendly movies in the courtyard. This part of the neighborhood is very walkable, but as you head north into purely residential parts of Brentwood you will need a car or bike to get around town.
Due to its close proximity to UCLA, this neighborhood has a good mix of young students, affluent families and high-profile residents that all enjoy its quaintness.
Brentwood is also a cultural hub. The architecturally stunning Getty Center showcases American and European art and massive gardens. Its grounds offer views over the entire city. Just up the road is the Skirball Cultural Center which has changing exhibitions throughout the year and also hosts film screening and family hubs.
Golf aficionados can join the Brentwood Country Club and female gun lovers can take advantage of the Girls Gun Club.
For families, there are some excellent schools in the neighborhood.
Brentwood is bordered on the west by Pacific Palisades, on the north by Tarzana and Encino, on the east by Bel-Air and Westwood, and on the south by Sawtelle and Santa Monica.
