Brixton has a high violent crime rate and a high property crime rate for London.
Brixton, located in Central London, is an energetic melting pot with a prominent art and music scene. There’s a local market that attracts people of all ages here, including a large number of families. It's got some gorgeous parks that host group activities, colorful pubs, and at night there are concerts around town.
The homes are spacious Late Victorian single-family houses, houses converted into flats, terraces, and charming cottages. Brixton is popular with City workers who want some quiet while being close to the action at the same time.
The multiculturalism of the area definitely comes out in the food. There’s delicious Italian fare, Mexican tapas, Nigerian cuisine, and Indonesian cooking. Bars and cafes take up a lot of space here as well and include Effra Social, a vintage-style bar that has pinball tournaments and old school movie nights.
There are several live music venues here, including the famous Brixton Acadmey. If theater is more your thing, the Ovalhouse Theatre and Landor Theatre have some great fringe shows in intimate spaces. The Brixton Art Gallery is another local favorite.
Brixton Market includes several shopping arcades and street stalls and sells food, produce, custom homewares, and vintage clothing. The "Pop Brixton" night market features tasty food stalls that reflect the muticultural makeup of the neighborhood.
Brixton is also home to a bunch of chain stores as well for those who aren’t looking to push the envelope.
Brixton is bordered on the north by Stockwell and Camberwell, on the east by Denmark Hill and Herne Hill, on the south by Streatham Hill, and on the west by Clapham.
