Sun Valley has an above average violent crime rate and an average property crime rate for Los Angeles.
Located in the San Fernando Valley, Sun Valley is a mixed residential and industrial neighborhood. In the eastern part of the neighborhood you start to find a semi-rural look and feel and the larger equestrian properties, but most of residential streets look like a typical suburb. Some of the industrial areas are being rehabbed, including a landfill that will be turned into a park and wetlands.
There are a mix of restaurants around. Shopping is limited to beauty supply stores, clothing stores, furniture stores, and other basics.
Sun Valley is bordered on the north and east by Shadow Hills, on the south by Burbank, North Hollywood, and Valley Glen, and on the west by Panorama City, Arleta, and Pacoima.
