Northgate has a high violent crime rate and a high property crime rate for Seattle.
This neighborhood is named after the Northgate Mall, which opened in 1950 as the first covered mall in America. The mall dominates the neighborhood.
There has been a great deal of residential and commercial development here over the last few years, adding large apartments and even more shopping to the area's modest single family homes.
Since Northgate lacks the charm of some of Seattle's other areas and has plenty of housing, it is a fairly affordable neighborhood. Residents near to the I-5 freeway will also have to deal with the noise from traffic.
Northgate is bordered on the north by Shoreline, on the east by Lake City, on the south by Maple Leaf, and on the west by Haller Lake and North College Park.
