Located in the family-friendly Sutherland Shire region of Sydney, Kareela is a quiet residential suburb nestled up against the Georges River. Residents tend to stick around a while and rave about what a great place it is to raise children. The neighborhood is full of large single-family homes on leafy streets.

While the suburb is a quiet place, it does have a shopping center covering all your basic needs, including a grocery store. There are a few fast food restaurants as well.

On the weekends you can take advantage of the local golf course, which has reasonably priced membership rates but also allows non-member play. Great bushwalking can be found in the 72 square kilometer (58 sq mile) Royal National Park, which is 10 minutes away. And the beaches of Cronulla are about a 20 minute drive.

This isn't a very walkable area, but there are good public transit options with bus routes covering most of the suburb. Two train stations are just a 5 minute drive or 15 minute bike ride away, and from there it's an hour train ride into the city.

Kareela is home to a highly rated primary school, but for secondary schools your kids will have to head to nearby suburbs.

Kareela is bordered on the north by Georges River, on the east by Sylvania, on the south by Kirrawee, and on the west by Jannali and Oyster Bay.
