Located about 5.5 miles (8.9 km) east of Downtown Los Angeles, Monterey Park is a surburban area whose claim to fame is having the highest percentage of Chinese Americans of any city in the United States. Like most suburbs in America, Monterey Park is a collection of shopping plazas, strip malls, and residential tracts. Many of those shopping plazas host amazing Chinese restaurants and other great Asian cuisine.
You'll find a mix of homes here, though single-family bungalows and two-story houses are the most common type. Because this is a hilly neighborhood, many of the homes have never-ending views of the valley. There are some low-rise apartment buildings as well.
Monterey Park is bordered on the north by Alhambra, on the east by Rosemead and South San Gabriel, on the south by Montebello, and on the west by East Los Angeles.
