Century City has a low violent crime rate and a low property crime rate for Los Angeles.
Before there were office towers and a giant mall in the neighborhood of Culver City, there were movies: 20th Century Fox studios used to own the property here. In the mid-1950s Fox decided to develop the real estate; the first office building went up in 1963 and the neighborhood never looked back.
Today, the Avenue of the Stars thoroughfare is lined with gleaming skyscrapers and thousands of office workers from around LA come here during the week. But just past the skyscrapers are quiet, tree-lined streets with modest single-family homes.
The culture here is dominated by the Westfield Century City shopping mall. This upscale center has nearly 50 shops and restaurants, as well as a grocery store. The Annenberg Space for Photography is also within the neighborhood's boundaries and hosts free exhibits throughout the year. And it's a short drive to the great dining options in Sawtelle, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood.
Century City is bordered on the north by Westwood, on the east by Beverly Hills, on the south by Cheviot Hills, and on the west by West Los Angeles.
